Building up: facingX
“when you start to sing yourself in the deep dark forest”
facingX is an antimusical on temporality set against the backdrop of extinction. It is a space where boundaries blur between theater and dance, raising questions about human connection, and the essence of dance itself. It’s a non-spectacle which aims to create a space where the performers are being with the audience instead of being for them, while investigating music’s power to strengthen representation, in conjunction with the political nature of silence and stillness – when the audience starts to hear their own breath. It both cherishes and satirizes culture—expressed through classical music and language—as the most sophisticated remedy against nothingness. It is a celebration of extinction, and a love letter to humanity.
At its core, facingX is a meditation on creation and productivity: the urge to fill silence with sound, and a tribute to our attempts to push back against nothingness. It’s a commemoration, a farewell, and an effort to reestablish the human connection with the void.
