YSBRYDION
Juniper & The Wolf (aka Geneviève Andræssen) is a duo of one; a singer-songwriter and traditional folk musician, weaving together her own unique brand of epic poetry, storytelling, original music, and folk songs from around the world. Encompassing a multitude of languages and eras, Geneviève spins a delicate web of counterpoints, entwining haunting vocals, liltingly playful guitar riffs, and the melancholy sounds of the nyckelharpa. Whether performing solo or collaborating with any number of the phenomenal, folk musicians encountered on the road, her shows continuously sway between spellbound silences and raucously singing crowds.
Hailing from the USA, Geneviève has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the US, and Canada, collecting songs and stories from various countries and cultures, and now calls Finland home. In addition to performances and her many, varied folk collaborations and projects, she currently attends the Global Music program at the renown Sibelius Academy, where she studies techniques for global activism through music, various forms of lilting (or ‘mouth music’), polyrhythmics, guitar, nyckelharpa, and double bass. With a passion for igniting a fascination with the folkloric arts within all of her audiences, Juniper & The Wolf will leave you quietly transformed– ready to escape into the wilds, forge a new world empire, or delve into the history of a fascinating story.
Pihla Perämäki
Joka kevät on ainoa kevät (Every Spring is the Only Spring) is a solo performance for voice and fiddle. Pihla Perämäki improvises and sings her own compositions, which are postcard-like moments where city and nature meet.
Pihla Perämäki is a Helsinki-based violinist, singer, and improviser. She plays and sings in various bands, including Kotve improvisation collective and a singer-fiddler duo Kuus & Hukkala. Her background is in Finnish folk music, and her music also has elements from experimental music, ambient, and free improvisation.
ABOUT SONGSCAPES
SONGSCAPES encompasses moments of togetherness and inspiration, through sharing the diverse landscapes that a song can have. It is a project run by students of the Sibelius Academy Global Music Department and independent cultural producers based in Helsinki.
Our motivation is to showcase local Helsinki based song composers and song performers and perhaps through this establish a local scene.
Vapaan Taiteen Tila is the place where it all happens once a month. You are welcome to listen to the music landscapes of Helsinki based artists, performing original compositions and arrangements of songs.
