Paria Mohajerani’s Blurring the Boundaries: Stories on a Revolution, a performance-installation. The fragments are part of a personal account by the artist who is trying to remember the participation in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolution in 2022 in Iran.
What if you could recreate the past?
The performance explores what it means to be an activist and how to participate as an individual inside a collective. Where do the boundaries between a collective act and individual personal decisions begin to blur? The performance is fictioning and alternating realities through the question “what if…”
Blurring the Boundaries: Stories on a Revolution is an artistic thesis by Paria Mohajerani. The work is a collaboration with the Master’s Programme in Live Art and Performance Studies (LAPS) at the Theatre Academy, Mad House Helsinki, and Vapaan Taiteen Tila.

Paria Mohajerani is a performance artist based in Helsinki and originally from Iran. Her background is in acting and directing both in stage shows and experimental, site-specific and online performances. Working with audience responsibilities and ethics in performances drew her to question how to engage the audience to redefine power structures in performance arts and events.
Paria’s artistry triangulates between the aesthetics of exposé and installation that in turn forms a performance. She also works with concepts of alternative ways of storytelling, navigating historical gaps and challenging the constructs of memory. The portfolio spans across political, immersive, documentary and site-specific performances often intertwining with video installations and multimedia arts.
