Building up: DeathFest

Being-towards-death: projecting our lives onto the horizon of death, as the most authentic experience of fueling life with its density.

DeathFest is a multidisciplinary event on the 5th of December dealing with processes of grief, loss and the re-approaching of both through a confrontational attitude. Through sonic, visual and embodied properties, death is viewed as a rite of passage and the grief left behind for those mourning, as the ontological swamp we have to swim through. Active, meditated and raw, the aim of this event is to unveil certain attitudes about the way we speak of our mortality as necessary, unavoidable and rich with sincerity. Political, social, emotive and reactive, death is the metaphysical frontier that is the most intimate with mortality. Non-relational, certain and indefinite, the affects left behind are the most intimate memories we carry with us.

This event follows a brave space policy. We celebrate the political understanding of all identities and ask people to claim their space. Zero tolerance for any shape, form or fashion of discrimination and hate. This event deals with heavy topics and personal narratives in an array of ways. Feel welcome to join whichever part of the event you feel accessible and exit whenever you feel you need to. The video screening space also functions as a care room.
