Saison 6: The Floor is Lava

Saison 6 is the post-graduate artist residency program launched by the Fine Art Academy of Montpellier (MO.CO.Esba) since 2018. This year, Saison 6 is in collaboration with Helsinki Biennial and Sao Paulo Biennial. Six young artists are selected to participate in the program:

We were engaged in the preparation of Helsinki Biennial, working with artists and curators to produce and install the exhibition. At the same time, we propose a parallel exhibition with our own works inspired by the surroundings and the encounters during the residency, bringing our own vibe in dialogue with local elements.
After a month of work-life experience and artistic research in Helsinki, Saison 6 presents the group exhibition The Floor Is Lava, inspired by the eponymous childhood game which we spontaneously started to play on the island of
Suomelinna. The rule of the game changes the conventional perception of space, evoking a ludic mental projection about its possible alternatives. This process corresponds well with our experience of exploring the city of Helsinki and its archipelago: trying to figure out a foreign cartography and a unfamiliar rhythm with our own bodily and sensory conception. Interested by the same theme, local artist 7odes is invited to join the exhibition and co-create with us. We will present you the best sparkles out of the lava.
