MIKKO SAVELA (SWE)
”Mikko Savela is a guitarist of Finnish origin, born and based in Umeå, Sweden. After exploring different genres of music with various groups, he turned into improvisation and started to experiment with different ways to play on the guitar. Today he has his guitar laying down, and uses it more as a percussion instrument than a guitar, by plucking the strings by both hands and hitting metallic objects on the guitar body. Besides the guitar he uses different kind of microphones and electronics. He has played with Will Guthrie, Jérome Nôetinger, Yan Jun, Hankil Ryu, Hong Chulki among others.”

“Umpio is a Finnish word that means vacuum, as in a light bulb. As an attribute it kinda means idiot. Full of emptiness since 2006. All starts from metal junk and a contact microphone, and ends in electronic abuse. The harsh noise balances the meditative tranquility. The acoustic playing balances the electronic manipulation. I humbly bow before the masters of electroacoustic sound at the cutting point between industrial noise and the irregular pulse of chaos.

Ilia Belorukov (alto sax, St. Petersburg) began collaborating with Lauri Hyvärinen (guitar, Helsinki) in 2012. Belorukov and Hyvärinen have been quietly reforming and refining their approach to improvisation during the years. Yet they’ve played together in Latvia, Russia, Estonia and Finland.

JUKKA HAUTAMÄKI
“Jukka Hautamäki is a media artist living in Helsinki. Hautamäki’s sound performances are microscopic studies into electronic sound. Live setup consists of DIY sound devices, which he manipulates in real time by changing components and reconnecting circuits. Recent setup has included under-hood work lights, solar cells, electronicmagnetic sources, coil mics, diy amps and potatoes. Relationship between performativity and sound plays a significant role in the live performances. Music style could be described as abstract ambient noise with a twist. Hautamäki has performed live in Europe and North America.”
