Songscapes
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
The Night Sun is an acoustic duo by Tedo Kartsivadze and Tamar Gvazava based in Helsinki, blending original compositions with the rich sounds of Georgian traditional and city folk music.
Two electro-acoustic guitars and harmonised vocals. The duo’s repertoire blends pop, folk, folk rock, psychedelic rock, indie, and alternative music. The original compositions have influences of Georgian folk tales and motives which mixes with other genres.
Susjaira Kerpens, a singer-songwriter from the island of Aruba, grew up surrounded by the melodies and rhythms of her Caribbean roots, enriched over time by the different sounds she encountered along her journey. She is now working on a collection of original songs in her native language, Papiamento.
Merve Abdurrahmani: Born and raised in Finland to parents from Kosova, Merve’s music is a rich tapestry shaped by her Albanian and Turkish heritage. Her musical journey is driven by curiosity and exploration, drawing on influences ranging from Western classical and jazz to Middle Eastern melodies, as well as Balkan, Turkish, and Nordic musical traditions.
ABOUT SONGSCAPES
Songscapes takes you on a journey of original song compositions at Vapaan Taiteen Tila. Produced by members of the Global Music department at the Sibelius Academy, this project has been running since November 2024, inviting artists to share their own music and creative visions.
The idea behind Songscapes was born from the need for a space in Helsinki’s music scene where diverse, original songs could be heard and appreciated. Though often influenced by various genres, this music doesn’t fit neatly into any one category.
While the term “singer-songwriter” or the Spanish “Cantautor/a” may come close, Songscapes explores a broader sonic landscape. Over the past year, we’ve experienced a wide range of compositions, each unique in its style and story.
